Robert McElrath

Mr. Robert McElrath was born to the late Gertrude McElrath and the late Mr. Andy Hamilton on April 20, 1929. He was united in marriage to Frances Dent on December 25, 1951, in which five children were born: Roderick (Judy) McElrath, Anita McElrath, Roberta(Billy-deceased) McMillan, Robert E. (Freddie) McElrath, Curman (Lyndon) Johnson.

He leaves  to cherish Mr. his  memories,  one sister, Mrs. Kay Frances Brown, one brother, Mr. Larry Hamilton, sister-in-law, Lillie Power and Dionne Hamilton, brother-in law Henry C. Dent Jr. (Coleen).  Also left to cherish him are his 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Mr. Robert became a member of Rising Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. N.C. Shepard.  He became a deacon at an early age and was faithful in his work for his Lord.  Mr. Robert held several positions in the church during his decades of service to the church, his last as deacon under Rev. Emanuell Smith III.

Mr. Robert was employed by the Sylacauga Housing Authority for 53 years under Ms. Virginia South West.  He worked at the Drew Court Housing Complex where he was an inspiration to many.

Mr. Robert leaves behind devoted friends, Larry Darby and Barry Darby, and two very close to his heart: William Dexter McErath  (nephew) and Lyndon Douglas Johnson(son-in-law).
