Sylacauga, Alabama - Mr. Roy Roosevelt Bell was born February 6, 1932, to the late Yolla Brownfield Bell and Roosevelt Bell in Talladega County, Alabama. Roy, peacefully transitioned home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2025, under the care of Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, Georgia.
Roy, confessed hope in Christ as a young boy and united with the Harper Springs Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama. As a young man he later joined Salem Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, where he served on the usher board. Later in life Roy moved to Washington, D.C. and he became a member of Central Union Baptist Church.
The astute Roy was educated in the Sylacauga City Schools, where he attended and graduated from East Highland High School. Roy was the youngest student in his class. Roy furthered his education by enrolling at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, where he received a Bachelor and Master Degree in Education. Roy later attended Atlanta University in Georgia, where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
Roy began his long teaching career in Douglasville, Georgia Public Schools and later taught in Atlanta, Georgia. Roy later moved to Washington, D.C. in 1969 and was employed with Washington D.C. Public School system for twenty-five years as a teacher.
Roy was an avid traveler. He began traveling when he became an adult. He traveled from the East Coast to the West Coast of the United States. Roy has also traveled to Europe where he visited London, Rome, and Paris. He also traveled to the Caribbean Islands.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Yolla B. Bell and Roosevelt Bell, brothers, Billa Joe Bell and Jerome Bell, sister, Maxine Goodgame, stepbrother, Darrell Gillard, niece, Angela Bell Lockett, nephew, Jerome Bell, Jr., and cousin, Martha Borden.
His love will forever be cherished by nephew, Anson Moon of Sylacauga, AL; great niece, Tara Breanna Lockett of Jonesboro, GA; two great great nieces, Yariah and Zyla; favorite cousins, Edward and Shirley Nix of Sylacauga, AL, Stanley Leonard of Sylacauga, AL, and Apostle Margie Sillman of Sylacauga, AL; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life for Roy Roosevelt Bell, age 92, will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 12:00 Noon, at Harper Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Sylacauga, Alabama. Pastor James O. Blackmon, Eulogist. Interment will commence in the Harper Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Public Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 1:00PM to 7:00PM at Community Funeral Home.
