Sylacauga, Alabama - Mr. Samuel Thomas Bluster earthly journey began on February 18, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama to the parents of Frank Welch, Sr. and Eligirtha Bluster.
“Coach Sam '' as he was affectionately known by his family, and students was educated in Oakland, California at McClymonds High School. He received Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He often attended Pine Hill Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where he received several Community Awards.
Sam enlisted in the United States Army in the early 1960. In the early 70’s, Sam enrolled and completed Culinary Arts School and later became a chef. He opened a family restaurant in the 70’s. He also opened a dog training business named Karsack Attack, to help protect the citizens.
September 7, 1977, Sam decided to change careers and attend the San Francisco Police Academy, where he received an Outstanding Police Work Recognition by his Captain in 1978. Sam traveled and moved back to Alabama and saw a great need for the youth of Sylacauga. A release of frustration drew Sam to open and operate the Talladega County Boxing Gym. For 14 years he served the Sylacauga Community, helping countless people to transform lives throughout the years.
On May 10, 2024, Sam departed this walk of life at his residence in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Welch, Sr. and Elgirtha Bluster, grandfather, Rev. Climition Howard Bluster, sister, Priscilla, brothers, Johnny, Randolph, and Frank, Jr., spouse, Elizabeth Welch, son, Charleston Welch, grandsons, Tyari Welch Powell and Kalani Welch.
His love will forever be cherished by nine children, Aletha Kelly, Samuel Welch, Jr., Essum Welch, Eunice Bluster, Charles Welch, Thomas Welch, Climition Welch, and Johnathan Lynn; twenty-eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, siblings, Ronald McPherson, Evans Bluster, Theresa Harris and Brenda Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
