Sylacauga, Alabama - Steven Deondre Ervin, affectionately known as “King Steve,” was born on May 16, 1955, in Sylacauga. He peacefully departed this earthly life on May 12, 2026, under the compassionate care of Coosa Valley Medical Center.
Steven received his education through South Highland and East Highland High School. At an early age, he joined Rising Star Baptist Church, where he remained grounded in faith and fellowship throughout his life.
Steven was a hardworking man who dedicated years of service to both Avondale Mills and M&N Alloy. Beyond his work, he was known for his warm personality, outgoing spirit, and deep love for family. Steve especially enjoyed spending time sitting in the yard surrounded by family and friends, sharing laughter and conversation. In his younger days, he also loved grilling and cooking outdoors, creating memories that his loved ones will forever cherish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Annie Ervin; brothers, Thomas Averitte, Billy Ray Thomas, Tareyton Ervin, and Thedrick Ervin; and sisters, Doris Nix, Willie Bell Foster, Earnestine Fitcher, and Hattie Townsend.
Steven leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving sons, Santarri (Cylena) Smith and Stedmon (Belinda) Smith; daughters, Suiose Smith, Camille (Sandar) Gaddis, and Romanda (Gregory) Chapman; grandchildren, Sir’Tez Smith, Marquise Gaddis, Stedmon Smith, Jr., Myles Huntley, Janya Cook, Jalia Chapman, Breana Chapman, Adriana Gaddis, and Makayla Gaddis; brothers, Sam Rose Ervin, Fred Ervin, Lawerence Ervin, Broderick Ervin, Thomas Averiette, Theophis Ervin, Kimwana Thomas, and Arness Thomas; sisters, Elizabeth Ebron, Gwendolyn Jeffries, Antina Averiette, Lorna Thomas, and CeCelia Thomas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
Though Steven has departed this earthly life, the love, laughter, and memories he shared will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
