Vincent, Alabama - Tessie Amos, Jr. earthly journey began on August 14, 1944, in West Point, Mississippi. He was born to the late Tessie Marshall Amos and the late Annie Bell Nash Amos. He was preceded in death by his sister, Balinda Amos, two brothers, Sam Amos and Philmore Amos.
He was educated in the public school system at Starkville High School in Starkville, Mississippi. Shortly after receiving his education, he enlisted in the United States Army in Jackson, Mississippi. During his journey in the army, he received the National Defense Service Medal. Tessie was honorably discharged from the army March 1968.
Tessie was later employed with General Motors Wentzville Assembly in St. Louis, Missouri, for many years before becoming employed with General Motors Bowling Green Assembly in Bowling Green, Kentucky. While residing in Kentucky, he was a part of American Legion Kentucky 209. He served as the VFW President. He was a part of Veterans of Foreign Wars 1682 and served as pass Master ancient Landmark Lodge 28 in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Along Tessie’s life’s journey he met and married his sweetheart Tommie Peterson on October 7, 2000. Their life together was a shining example of love and respect. Tessie relocated to Alabama, and he united his faith with The New Rising Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.
Tessie Amos, Jr. departed this walk of life on February 2, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his beautiful family.
Tessie’s love will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Tommie Amos of Vincent, AL; loving children, Crystal (John) Baylor of Birmingham, AL, Keith (Angela) Peterson of Trussville, AL, Anthony (Adrienne) Amos, Tessie (Kendra) Amos, III, and Phillip (Stacy) Amos all of St. Louis, MO; fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren; loving siblings, Robert (Bobbie) Amos of West Point, Miss, Miniimah Hasain of Memphis, Tenn, Louise Stewart and Katie Davis; and a host of sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life for Tessie Amos, Jr., 79, will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 11:00AM at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Harpersville, Alabama. Bishop Theoangelo Perkins, eulogist. Interment will commence in Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, Alabama. Public viewing will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, 1:00PM to 7:00PM at Community Funeral Home.
