Theresa Gale McMillian

Childersburg, Alabama - Theresa G. McMillian was born on May 11, 1958, to Josie McMillian and Willie McMillian. She departed this life on May 1, 2026, after a brief and unexpected battle with ovarian cancer.

Theresa spent much of her life in Brooklyn, New York, where she graduated from New Utrecht High School and later worked faithfully as a Mail Clerk with the United States Post Office until her retirement. She took pride in her work and was known for being dependable, committed, and true to her responsibilities. Brooklyn was where she built many meaningful memories, formed lasting connections, and carried herself with the same grace, style, and warmth that family and friends came to love. After retiring, Theresa returned home to Childersburg, Alabama, where she continued to enjoy the comfort of family. Throughout her life, Theresa carried a strong work ethic, a dependable spirit, and a heart deeply devoted to family.

Theresa joined Pleasant Valley C.M.E. Church and recommitted her life to Christ in 2013. As a faithful member, she served on the choir and found joy in worship and song. Her favorite hymn, “Blessed Assurance, ”reflected the faith that helped guide her life.

Theresa will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her love of dancing, and the stylish way she carried herself. She had a timeless sense of style, often accented with beautiful jewelry, and she carried herself with grace, confidence, and warmth. Nothing made her happier than gathering with family to celebrate life and one another. Staunchly committed to those she loved, Theresa was known as someone who kept her word, showed up when it mattered, and gave comfort without hesitation.

Whenever family or friends told Theresa, “I love you,” she would lovingly respond, “I love you more.” Those words beautifully captured who she was: a woman whose love was generous, steady, and overflowing.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Josie McMillian and Willie McMillian, and her nephew, Christopher Thompson.

Theresa leaves to cherish her memory her loving brother, Willie McMillian (Sharon) of Alabama; her loving sister, Freida P. McMillian of Alabama; three brothers from New York, Gus Stewart, Michael Stewart, and Ricky Stewart; four nieces, Lisa McMillian of Alabama, Christyna Thompson of Washington, D.C., Vanessa King of Alabama, and Raven McMillian of Virginia; one nephew, Wali McMillian of New York; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, church family, and dear friends.

Her life was a blessing to many, and her memory will continue to live on through the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the joy she shared so freely.
