Willa Dean Prater was born in Sylacauga, Alabama on November 3, 1948 to the late Ollie Dean Prater and Willie Mae Prater (deceased). She was raised in the church and gave her life to Christ at a very early age in fellowship with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she joined many ministries over the span of her lifetime.
Although she was born with eyesight challenges that would result in complete blindness later in life, Willa surpassed the expectations of most people. She attended the Helen Keller School of the Blind in Talladega, Alabama. One of the proudest moments of her life was being taught how to drive by her second born brother on the grounds of Mignon Junior High School. Willa loved to get dressed up for church on Sundays and singing in the choir. She was employed for many years by the Talladega County Schools, where she worked as a janitor at B.B.Comer Memorial High School until she retired.
Willa departed this mortal life and entered eternal rest on the evening of January 24, 2021 at the Coosa Valley Medical Center. She was ready to feel the comfort of living with the Spirit of God.
To cherish her loving memories, she leaves her siblings, adoring nieces, uncles, in-laws, and a host of cousins, friends, and other loved ones: Donnell (Marie) Prater-Montgomery, Alabama; Ollie L. (Karen) Prater- Bowie, Maryland; Danita C. (Cedric) Pearl-Alabaster, Alabama; Charles Holloman (Sandra, deceased)-Plaquemine, Louisiana; Crystal L. Prater- Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Shanice R. Adams- Madison, Alabama; Dr. Oscar L. (Brenda) Prater- Williamsburg, Virginia; Wallace D. (Barbara) Prater- Sylacauga, Alabama. She also leaves her very special caregiver and friend, Mrs. Loretta Borden and Mrs. Inez Hart, a dearly loved friend whom she cherished as a sister.
