Willie James Garrett affectionally known as Fleet was born on November 11, 1941 to the parents of Jimmy Garrett and Annie Lou Hamilton Garrett in Vincent, Alabama.
Fleet was dedicated in his faith and believed in God. He received his formal education in the Shelby County School System and graduated at Vincent High School, Vincent, Alabama. After graduating, Willie became a skillful brick mason in the construction industry, where he faithfully worked many years until his retirement.
Along Willie’s life journey he united in Holy Matrimony to the late Frankie Mae Garrett. Many friends and family refereed calling Willie by Wild Willie or Fleet. He was very loving and kind man who loved spending time with family and friends. He had a passion for working on cars, outdoors projects and spending time on the lake fishing. His favorite hobbies was playing dominoes and spades. Wild Willie will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.
Wild Willie departed this walk of life on April 7, 2023 under the care of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Spartanburg, South Carolina, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Lou and Jimmy (Bannie) Garrett, his wife, Frankie Mae Garrett, sisters, Doris (Mook), Lillie Dean, brothers, Richard Earl, Johnny, and one daughter, Marsha Russell Weaver.
Wild Willie’s love will forever be cherished by his loving sons, Victor (Bernadette) Burns of Dallas, TX, Willie (Sylvia) Garrett, Jr. of Alexander City, AL, Derrick (LaRinda) Garrett of Atlanta, GA, Marvin (Allison) Garrett of Jacksonville, FL, and Kantrell Russell of Spartanburg, SC; loving daughters, Melody White, Stella Marie Chaney both of Marsha, TX, Doris (Gilbert Gerod Reynolds) Harris of Pell City, AL, Terra Mann of Childersburg, AL, Glenda Tubbs, Shirley Jefferies, Jennifer (Jermaine) Russell-Walton, and Tonia (Rob) Frataccia all of Spartanburg, SC; loving siblings, Frankie Mae (Juke) Curry, Jimmy (Edna) Garrett both of Philadelphia, PA, Annie Ree (Jive) Jews of Childersburg, AL, and Ernest Ray Garrett of Childersburg, AL; special granddaughter, Maryana Garrett, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews, special friends, Diane Callier, Clifton (Selina) Keith, other relatives and friends.
