Willie Pearl Dykes Obituary

Willie Pearl Dykes, was born November 13, 1935, in Goodwater, AL to the late Mary and John Willis Bradford.

She confessed Christ at an early age and loved to sing in the church. As a child she would travel to many churches to sing. On February 14 1955 she married her life partner James Dykes. They settled in Sylacauga to raised their family of five children. Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church became their church home where Willie Pearl served faithfully until her illness. She was a dedicated and loyal member of the choir for many years. She was admired for her elegant style, singing and her fashionable hats.

She was affectionately known to some as Mrs. Willie Pearl and to others as Mrs. Dykes. Her cheerful, caring and loving heart afforded her many opportunities to help take care of other families and friends. She never met a stranger. She also enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and church functions-collard greens, cornbread and fried apple pies were her favorites.

Mrs. Dykes was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years James Dykes; son Theordise Dykes; three sisters, five brothers.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, one daughter, Willie Dean Dykes of Sylacauga, Alabama, three sons, Lonnie Ray (Almina) Dykes of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Rev. Anthony (Gloria) Dykes of Sylacauga, Alabama and Randall (Sharon) Dykes of Talladega, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Wykela (Wy), Shamika (Pooh), Chaymilla (Panda), Nadia (Not), Kelvin (Lil Man), Calvin (Big Man), Makeyta (MyMy); nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Willie Pearl was a generous woman who loved life and the people she surrounded herself with. All who knew her will never forget the lasting legacy of her tenacity and grace. Willie Pearl faced her biggest challenge with great courage and love for the Lord. She is now with her Lord and Savior in perfect health. She will be forever missed and forever in our hearts.
