Woodrow Wilson Foster, Jr.

Sylacauga, Alabama - Mr. Woodrow Wilson Foster, Jr. was born February 10, 1948, in Sylacauga, Alabama.  He was the second of six children born to the late Virginia Buford Heard and the late Woodrow Wilson Foster, Sr.

Woodrow was a respected Vietnam veteran who completed two tours overseas and retired from White Knight Engineered Products in Childersburg, Alabama.  “Woody” or “Brut”, as his family lovingly called him, was an avid reader and creative.  In his spare time, you could find him at a booth in the Wilsonville Flea Market selling his homemade crafts - Carvings made from wood - or keeping busy by visiting family and friends. For family functions, you could count on him to bring a delicious red velvet cake or share a beautiful poem like the one enclosed here.  He loved to tell stories of family history and was always ready to stop what he was doing to help anyone that asked.  He was an amazing artist who painted the signs in downtown Sylacauga back in the day and had a passion for history, current events, martial arts, and sharing what he learned with others.

Woodrow departed this life on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Foster, Roger Foster, Ray Evans, and sister, Mildred Foster. 

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted son, Terence (LaKetha) Foster; granddaughter, Aaliyah Hoyett; two grandsons, Juwan and Kaylon Foster; brothers, Theron (Gail) Foster, Derry (Sara) Foster, Warren (Patricia) Foster, Michael Erby, and Robert (Tomoko) Heard; sisters, Marie (Dennis) Lee, Stephanie (Tony) Paige, and Tina (Cornelius) Hale; one sister in law, Carolyn Foster; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will always cherish their fond memories of him.   

Celebration of life for Woodrow Wilson Foster, Jr., age 77, will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1:00PM at Community Funeral Home Chapel, Sylacauga, Alabama.  Pastor Jimmial Harrison, Eulogist.  Interment will commence in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Sylacauga, Alabama.  Public Viewing will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, 1:00PM to 7:00PM, at Community Funeral Home.
