Montgomery, Alabama - On Monday October 13th, 2025, Yvette Dineen McKie-Washington, loving daughter and mother of three was called home at the young age of 61. Yvette was born on September 9th, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York to a loving mother Sheila Bowers Stephens. As a young girl, her family would call her Vett or Vettson. Yvette has attended several elementary schools, but the one that stands out is when she lived in Queens with her Aunt Yvonne and Uncle Walter. Yvette attended St. Clement Pope with her cousins, where she completed 4 of the 7 Catholic Sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, and Penance.
Eventually Yvette made it back to Brooklyn to attend and graduate from Fort Hamilton High School and continued her education at LaGuardia Community College and Faulkner University. In New York, Yvette worked various corporate and administrative positions. But her last position was right here in Alabama as an office manager for Alabama State University.
Yvette was always full of life, bringing a smile and laughter everywhere she went. She loved listening to music, taking care of her dogs, watching sports, and traveling as much as she could. She was a dedicated, hard working mother and always enjoyed being surrounded by her loved ones. She had a passion for music and constantly listened to any and everything as well as attended concerts and comedy shows. Music was always a big part of her life which she passed on to her children.
Yvette was preceded in death by brother Tommie Lee Stephens Jr., Aunt Dorothy Blunt, Uncles Thomas Bowers and Darryl Bowers, and Granddaughters Kaile and Jaida Wallace.
Yvette was survived by her son Kevin Washington, daughters Sydnee Brianna McKie-Senior and Skye Jade McKie-Rosser, mother Sheila Stephens, her step-father Tommie Lee Stephens, brother Terrell Stephens, Aunts Yvonne Pate and Karen Carter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We still cannot understand why.... but we know that God does not make mistakes. Our beautiful and loving mother, rest in peace, your presence will be tremendously missed, until we meet again...
